Dutch Delight For Vincent!

VINCENT VAN DER VOORT won his second Players Championship of the year with a deciding leg defeat of Wayne Jones in Haarlem on Saturday.

The Dutchman saw off Jones to claim his maiden PDC title in March, and repeated his win to take the £6,000 title in Holland.

Van der Voort picked up early wins over Italian Sergio Pettarini, Denmark's Vladimir Andersen in Haarlem before victories over English trio Kevin Painter, Colin Lloyd and Tony Eccles put him into the event's semi-finals.

There, he whitewashed Mervyn King to win through to his fifth PDC final, hitting a brace of 12-darters in the process against the world number four.

While the final's opening four legs were shared, van der Voort took command by winning the next two to lead 4-2.

Jones, though produced finishes of 102, 78 on the bullseye and 108 to move 5-4 up - before then missing two match darts at double eight in the next.

Van der Voort finished 86 on the bullseye to force a decider, where he was too strong to land double ten for the victory.

Jones finished as runner-up for a sixth time on the PDC ProTour as he continues his search for a maiden ranking title.

The Wolverhampton star's consistent year of form continued at the Van Der Valk Hotel, where he swept past Tony Blundell, Andree Welge, Justin Pipe and Steve Evans to reach the last eight.

There, he overcame world number seven Adrian Lewis 6-4 before dropping only one leg against Gary Anderson in a comprehensive semi-final win.

King's quarter-final victory over Antonio Alcinas ended the Spaniard's best-ever run in a professional event, although the £1,000 prize money improves his chances of qualifying for next month's European Championship.

Jelle Klaasen's quarter-final appearance improved his chances of qualifying for the StanJames.com World Matchplay, with Tony Eccles' hopes of appearing in Blackpool also looking good after he reached the last eight.

Semi-Finals
Vincent van der Voort whitewashed Mervyn King to move into his second Players Championship final of 2010. The Dutchman broke throw in the opening leg and swept into a 3-0 lead thanks to legs of 14 and 12 darts. King hit 180s in the next two, but missed doubles allowed van der Voort to extend his lead to five legs before he fired in a 180 and a 98 finish to seal victory with another 12-dart checkout.
Wayne Jones joins van der Voort in the final - the second final the duo will have contested this year, after the Dutchman took victory in Gladbeck in March. Jones was a comfortable 6-1 winner against Gary Anderson, who ran out of steam in the semis. Jones took the opening three legs before the Scot got off the mark on double top in the fourth, but Jones won the next three without reply to progress.
