TERRY JENKINS won his second Pro Tour title of 2007 with a 3-0 defeat of Wes Newton in the final of Saturday's Players Championship at Hayling Island.
Jenkins followed up his Antwerp Darts Trophy victory with a battling performance at the Lakeside Holiday Village.
He saw off Bob Crawley, John Ferrell, Darren Johnson, Jelle Klaasen, Michael van Gerwen and Steve Beaton on his way to the final.
His semi-final win over Beaton saw Jenkins come from 2-0 down to win 3-2, but he stepped up a gear in the final.
Newton took the game's opening leg, but Jenkins reeled off six in a row to take the title to punish some sloppy finishing from the emerging Lancastrian.
Newton produced some superb darts to reach his first Pro Tour final, including wins over John Part, Cliff Lazarenko, Steve Brown and Mark Dudbridge.
Beaton's run to the semi-finals means that he won £1,250 and moved himself up the Players Championship Order of Merit into one of the four qualifying places for the Stan James World Matchplay.
Following Sunday's Players Championship, the best four performers outside of the world's top 28 will win the final places at the Winter Gardens.
Joining Beaton in the four at present are Michael van Gerwen, Adrian Gray and either Steve Brown or Jelle Klaasen.
Van Gerwen knocked out Roland Scholten 3-2 - with Scholten missing darts for the match - en route to the last eight, where he lost to Jenkins, who had ended Klaasen's hopes in the last 16.
Brown also reached the quarter-finals, where he lost to Wes Newton, while Gray was knocked out by Klaasen in his board final.
A ten-darter from Dennis Priestley was not enough in his last eight defeat to Mark Dudbridge.
Cliff Lazarenko backed up his good showing in last week's Blue Square UK Open by reaching the last 16, overcoming Adrian Lewis in his opening game and pipping Kevin McDine in a deciding leg in the board final before going down to Newton.
Andy Jenkins was another early casualty from the seeded players, alongside Mick McGowan, Alan Tabern, Wayne Jones and Lionel Sams.
