Lewis Sees Off Scholten

ADRIAN LEWIS 4-3 ROLAND SCHOLTEN
(2-3, 2-3, 3-1, 3-0, 3-2, 0-3, 3-1)

ROOKIE Adrian Lewis continued his quest to win the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship - sending number four seed Roland Scholten crashing out of the event.

The 20-year-old from Stoke has knocked out qualifier Dave Honey and former World Champion Dennis Priestley on his way to round three.

And he claimed another big-name scalp in Scholten to move into the last eight of the £500,000 tournament.

The Dutch giant led 2-0 after edging the opening two sets 3-2 following a high quality start to the match, which saw both players post ton-plus checkouts.

Scholten also led in the third set, but Lewis made him pay for some missed doubles to level matters before landing a 113 finish and then hitting a 68 finish with aplomb to move back to 2-1.

Lewis took his run to seven successive legs by winning the fourth set without reply and then going ahead in the fifth.

Scholten hit back to go 2-1 up before Lewis took out 140 and then landed double four to snatch the deciding leg.

The Dutchman won the next three legs to take the match into the final set, which Lewis opened with a brilliant 160 finish.

Scholten hit back from 2-0 down to stay in the match, but Lewis landed double ten to complete the win.

"That was very tough, but I'm delighted," said Lewis.

"Roland played well, and when it went 2-0 to him I was wondering what I had to do to win a set but I gave it my all and came back well.

"I played well and hopefully I'll carry that on. I've got Peter Manley next and I'm confident enough.

"I've had a bit of 'flu but I'll have a good rest and get ready for that match."
