Lloyd Takes Atlanta Title

COLIN LLOYD won the Atlanta Players Championship, defeating James Wade in the final.

Lloyd claimed his first tournament win since January with the £5,000 success in the first of two PDC ranked events in Georgia over the weekend.

After whitewash wins over Tom Jackowski and Steve Maish in the early rounds, and a win over Peter Wright, he overcame Roland Scholten and Mark Walsh to reach the final.

There, he defeated Wade, who had announced his return to action with wins over John Liggett, Steve Hine, Peter Manley, Jamie Caven and Darin Young on the day.

Lloyd took two breaks of throw in moving 3-0 up in the final, and though the left-hander pulled back to 3-2, a trio of legs secured the title for the Essex man.

Walsh reached the semi-finals in his bid for a fifth PDC Pro Tour win of the year, and he was joined in the last four by American left-hander Young.

Young overcame Dennis Priestley, Matt Clark, Terry Jenkins and Mark Webster in progressing to the semis.

Ken MacNeil battled through to the quarter-finals, where he was joined by Webster, Jamie Caven and Roland Scholten, a semi-finalist in the Canadian Players Championship last weekend.
