Mardle Completes Sport Relief Mile

WAYNE MARDLE showed his support for Sport Relief at last week's Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts by completing his own Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile.

The Romford star covered a mile during his practice for the clash with James Wade at the Nottingham Arena - completing 322 visits to the oche in warming up for the game.

The 322 visits - each totalling around five metres of walking - saw Mardle cover a mile, and he walked a further quarter of a mile during his seven-all draw with Wade.

"On the day of a match I try and stay as focused as possible but I thought it would be fun to complete my Sport Relief mile on the same day," said Mardle.

"I've been putting in some serious practice - getting my pacing just right so I could make a quick turnaround when I got to the dartboard.

"Some of the other players competing in the Whyte and Mackay Premier League Darts won't practice as much, we all prepare differently, but I'd often walk around a mile - it was good of them to lend me their support though!

"Terry Jenkins and James Wade were there throughout, keeping me going through the highs and lows!"

Two Sport Relief t-shirts have also been signed by five of the Premier League players, including current World Champion John Part, and will be auctioned off on eBay.

Not only will the highest bidder get their hands on a piece of sporting history but they will also be making a difference to the lives of many - all proceeds are going directly to Sport Relief

More than 400,000 people did the Sport Relief Mile in 2006, including Prince William and former Prime Minister Tony Blair.

This year there is the option of running one, three or six miles so people can choose the distance that challenges them.
