PDC Link Up With Bravo

LEADING UK entertainment channel Bravo will televise the PartyPoker.net European Championship this summer.

The third staging of the European Championship will be held in Dinslaken, Germany, from July 29-August 1, featuring 32 players battling for £200,000 in prize money.

Coverage of the European Championship in the UK will come through Bravo, which is available on Sky channel 123 and Virgin Media channel 134, as the long-standing entertainment channel screens darts for the first time.

"We're delighted to be working with Bravo, whose well-known entertainment brand will be enhanced with the addition of live darts to an already popular schedule," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.

"The format of the tournament guarantees excitement across all four days, from the quick-fire first round on Thursday and Friday to the climactic semi-finals and final in one session on Sunday evening.

"We hope this is the start of a long and successful partnership with Bravo."

Richard Watsham, Bravo's Commissioning Editor said: "We are very excited about Bravo being the new UK TV home of European Darts.

"Our approach to the format will be a fresh and energetic one, which we know will entice and deliver a whole new audience to the sport and to the channel."

The European Championship will also be screened live in German on DSF, a long-standing broadcast partner of the PDC in the country.

The PDC's top 16 players at the start of July will qualify automatically for the European Championship, headed up by current champion Phil Taylor, who has won the title in both 2008 and 2009 since the tournament's launch.

They will be joined by eight European-based players from the PDC's European Order of Merit, comprised from events held in Gibraltar, Germany, Holland and Austria, and the final eight players will come from the Players Championship Order of Merit.
