Sky Sports To Show SA Masters

THE 2009 Emperors Palace South African Masters will be shown live on Sky Sports in the UK.

The tournament sees four leading PDC stars take on the top four South Africans in a knockout event at Johannesburg's Emperors Palace Casino on Sunday September 27.

The four South Africans will be the semi-finalists from the previous day's PDC South African Open, which has been won in the last two years by Charles Losper.

They will take on reigning Ladbrokes.com World Darts Champion Phil Taylor, Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts winner James Wade, three-time World Champion John Part and world number five Mervyn King in the South African Masters.

The four PDC stars will be drawn against their South African counterparts in the quarter-finals, with the winners going on to contest the semi-finals and final.

The tournament will be shown live from 7-10pm by Sky Sports in the UK as well as in South Africa on SuperSport.

"The Emperors Palace South African Masters has developed as a concept over the past three years and we're delighted that Sky Sports will screen this year's event," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.

"The standard of South African darts is improving year-on-year and this is a great showcase for their future stars to step onto the big stage."

Phil Taylor retained the Emperors Palace South African Masters last September, overcoming John Part in the final.

The PDC South African Open sees the winner qualify for the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship, with Wynand Havenga having been the 2006 champion and inaugural representative from his country in the tournament.

The PDC South African Open is open to all South African Citizens for entry, which costs R150. Entries can be made via Jon McGowan on 082-87-36-046.
