Wayne Takes On Warriors!

WAYNE MARDLE recently visited the Wigan Warriors training ground to give the rugby league stars darts tips!

The Warriors have set up their own internal darts league, with the entire squad competing after training sessions - inspired by seeing Mardle and his rivals in the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts.

Mardle visited their Orrell training ground ahead of the Premier League's visit to the M.E.N. Arena recently, and took on some of the players.

Hooker Mick Higham almost defeated the World Championship semi-finalist on the day.

"It was great fun," said Mardle. "The guys all love their darts and you can see that the league is really competitive.

"It's great to see other sportsmen enjoying the darts as much as we do!"

The Warriors squad have also adopted their own nicknames - although Phil "The Power" Bailey may have had some inspiration with his moniker.

"It was a great surprise and a treat for the boys when Wayne came," said Richard Mathers, nicknamed "Rolls Royce".

"It was good to have him down and a few of the boys wanted to test him out.

"Mickey can throw a dart, he's a good player and if he'd beaten Wayne he wouldn't have let us forget it!

"There's some good players and some not so good players, but it's a bit of fun. It's good to get the boys together before and after training and get a bit of team spirit going."
