ADAM HUNT and Nick Kenny were the victorious duo in the fifth double-header of 2014 PDC Unicorn Youth Tour events held at the Robin Park Tennis Centre in Wigan.

Hunt started his run to a third PDC Unicorn Youth Tour title with a tough first round clash against new World Youth Champion Keegan Brown, claiming a 4-2 win before dismissing Liam Cooper by the same scoreline.

The 20-year-old from Chester-le-Street progressed to the last eight following deciding leg victories over Cain Unwin and Dimitri Van Den Bergh before defeating George Killington 4-2.

Hunt then secured an excellent 4-2 semi-final win over James Hubbard before claiming the £1,000 first prize with a 4-3 win over Austria’s Rowby-John Rodriguez – his third deciding leg win of the event.

Rodriguez, who had lost the PDC Unicorn World Youth Championship final to Keegan Brown nine days earlier, continued his good form in Wigan on Saturday to reach another final.

The 20-year-old dropped just one leg in each of his first three matches before crushing Hull talent Reece Robinson with a whitewash 4-0 win to secure a quarter-final spot.

Rodriguez edged out Glamorgan’s Kurt Parry in their quarter-final clash before securing a place in the final with a 4-2 triumph over German teenager Max Hopp.

That gave the Austrian the opportunity of claiming a second Youth Tour title, but he was to be denied glory after losing the deciding leg of a tight final to Durham’s Hunt, having to settle for the £500 runners-up prize for his efforts.

Germany’s bright hope Max Hopp narrowly missed out on a second Youth Tour final of 2014 when his good run in the first event of the day ended in a 4-2 semi-final defeat to Rodriguez.

Former World Youth Champion Hubbard, who won the last Youth Tour event held in Coventry two weeks ago, enjoyed a strong run in Saturday’s first event with a run to the last four before falling to a 4-2 loss to Adam Hunt.

UK Open giant-killer Aden Kirk reached his second Youth Tour quarter-final in the space of a fortnight while Wales’ Parry reached his second quarter-final of the year following a strong display.

London’s George Killington, another Youth Tour winner already in 2014, produced a good run to the last eight while Braintree’s Rhys Hayden reached the same stage, backing up a semi-final appearance last time out in Coventry.

The day's second tournament saw Nick Kenny claim the second £1,000 prize to take his second PDC Unicorn Youth Tour title - having won the opening event of year back in early March.

The Welshman recorded whitewash wins over Lewis Pickin and Joshua Richardson in his first two games to secure a place in the last 32, where he had lost in the day’s opening event.

Kenny continued his progress in Wigan with wins against the very strong trio of Rodriguez, Brown and Van Den Bergh as he sealed a semi-final spot.

Kenny carried on his fine form with a deciding-leg victory over former World Youth Champion Hubbard before claiming the title with a 4-1 victory over Sam Hewson.

Hewson, who turns 21 next week, reached his second Youth Tour final in the space of a month with a fine display at the Robin Park Tennis Centre.

The Lincolnshire youngster, who lost to Rodriguez in the second round of the day's opening event, reached the decider of the second which included wins over Jeffrey De Zwaan, Josh McCarthy and Rhys Hayden.

The victory over Hayden confirmed his place in the final, but his hopes of a second Youth Tour title were extinguished by Kenny, who defeated the 20-year-old by a 4-1 margin.

Hubbard continued his strong day with a second run to the semi-final stages, only to lose out again in the last four following an agonising 4-3 loss to Kenny, ending his hopes of a second title in 2014.

Essex’s Hayden improved on his last eight effort in the first event of Saturday’s double-header with a fine run to the last four in the second, continuing his strong form in recent weeks.

Belgium’s Van Den Bergh - twice a winner in Youth Tour competitions in 2014 - reached the quarter-finals in the second event of the day, alongside Kent’s Josh Payne, who has already reached two finals and two semi-finals at this level so far this year.

Holland’s de Kruijf made it through to the quarter-final stage before losing a deciding leg to Hayden, while 17-year-old Josh McCarthy reached the last eight of a Youth Tour event for the first time since August 2012.

Sunday sees the PDC Unicorn Challenge Tour take centre stage at the Robin Park Tennis Centre in Wigan, where PDPA Associate Members will contest a double-header of scheduled events with £10,000 on offer in each tournament.
