PDC President Hearn awarded Freedom of the City of London

Barry Hearn (PDC)

PDC President Barry Hearn OBE is to be awarded the Freedom of the City of London to recognise his achievements.

The Matchroom founder began his career as an accountant and has famously promoted a range of sport, making notable contributions to darts, snooker, boxing and pool.

The Freedom of the City of London will be presented to Hearn, alongside former boxers Rocky Hatton MBE and Michael Watson MBE, at a charity dinner and white collar boxing event in October.

Barry Hearn OBE, said: "I'm absolutely thrilled and deeply honoured to receive the Freedom of the City of London — a place that holds so much history, tradition, and personal meaning for me.

"It's a privilege I'll cherish.

"I'm also incredibly excited about the Lord Mayor’s Appeal Fight Night this October — a fantastic evening of sport and fundraising in the heart of London, bringing people together for a great cause."

The trio will join The Lord Mayor, Alderman Alastair King DL at London's prestigious Guildhall on October 8 2025 for a star-studded black-tie evening of white collar boxing and fundraising, sponsored by Bloomberg.

Boxers from the London Fire Brigade, selected by respected amateur boxing club Fitzroy Lodge, will go glove-to-glove with the New York City Fire Department's boxing team.

Donations will also go directly to support the health and wellbeing of firefighters and members of the UK fire services, who face unique psychological, physical and social challenges because of their service.
