Luke Littler has been backed into 6/4 to land the BOYLE Sports World Grand Prix title at the second attempt following a stunning opening round performance at Leicester’s Mattioli Arena on Tuesday.
Already the outright favourite before the tournament got underway, Littler took out finishes of 151 and 144 during a 2-0 victory over Gian van Veen, even though the Dutchman broke a 24-year record by posting an all-time tournament high average of 106.47.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said: "Having been favourite before stepping up to the oche, Luke Littler did nothing to put punters off with an electric opening round performance.
“The World Grand Prix is one of the tournaments he hasn’t ticked off yet and he looks determined to put that right as soon as soon as possible."
With Michael van Gerwen ousted by compatriot Dirk van Duijvenbode, Littler leads his great rival Luke Humphries (7/2) in the betting to lift the trophy on Sunday, with Gerwyn Price rated third favourite at 9/1 following a comeback victory over Ryan Searle.
2021 World Grand Prix champion Jonny Clayton is also on the move with the oddsmakers, as his chances were slashed into 12/1 (from 20/1) after he saw off the challenge of Andrew Gilding in straight sets.
