ALAN WARRINER-LITTLE banished his first round blues with a 3-0 victory over German qualifier Andree Welge in the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.

The Cumbrian has had a miserable time in the major tournaments since suffered an early exit at last year's tournament.

However, he saw his confidence come flooding back as he took advantage of a nervy German number two, who was making his Purfleet debut.

Warriner-Little took the opening set 3-0 as Welge adapted to life on the big stage.

The German won the opening leg of the next set, but Warriner responded to open up his lead to 2-0 with three successive legs.

Welge managed a 116 checkout to level the third set at 1-1, but Warriner-Little managed to apply the killer touch and set up a second round date with Canadian Gerry Convery.

"I've lost three or four times in the first round since coming here last year, so I wanted to get that game out of the way," said Warriner-Little.

"I know I can get better as the tournament goes on. Andree was a bit of an unknown quantity so I had to be on my toes.

"But that was good for me and my finishing was pretty good overall, so I can have Christmas dinner with a smile on my face now!"
