Over 50 schoolchildren from Nottingham experienced a Bullseye Maths session as Premier League darts returned to the city last week.
The PDC's Bullseye Maths scheme promotes numeracy in a fun and interactive way, combining maths and darts in both practical and theory exercises.
Bullseye Maths was introduced in 2022 and sees an online portal - which includes the interactive Mathlete game, videos from top players and downloadable worksheets - accompanied by sessions in schools or around PDC events.
Last week saw darts commentator and former professional Chris Mason share his experience in the sport in an in-school session at Nottingham's Cloudside Academy, which was followed by a staff event to promote Bullseye Maths.
Pupils from Cloudside Academy also participated in a special Bullseye Maths session alongside students from Cotmanhay Junior, Glenbrook Spencer Academy, Jubilee Academy and Hempshill Hall School on Thursday March 14 at Nottingham's Motorpoint Arena ahead of the Premier League night in the venue.
"It was great to kick 2024 off in style with Bullseye Maths at Cloudside Academy," said Room 180 Academy's Gary Horsley, who runs the Bullseye Maths sessions.
"The children were fantastic and really enjoyed playing the ABC of darts. The number challenges were fun, and the children developed their times-tables, odds and evens awareness and the energy in the room was wonderful.
"It was great to share the event with Chris Mason and his coaching tips were well received, with a lot of the children saying they are now off to the shops to get a dartboard!"
Cloudside Academy's Elliott Roulstone added: "It was a brilliant session, the children loved it and were challenged with the number games – it was a great way to develop their fluency with numbers.
"The children loved playing darts and Chris was a brilliant ambassador for the sport. The teacher CPD session was great fun and we look forward to further development with our maths intervention groups at the school.
"We are looking forward to further sessions as we continue to link with Room 180 Academy – thank you for an inspiring day."
Cotmanhay School's Dave Banks said: "What a great day and experience for the children. The children loved the games, and the chance to do a walk-on and be on the stage is something the children and staff will remember forever.
"A wonderful atmosphere was created by the team and we look forward to returning next year."

The Bullseye Maths scheme was recognised in November with a Bronze award at the 2023 Sports Business Awards in the Best Sports Community or CSR Scheme - Other Sports category.
