Civic Remains Grand Slam Venue

THE world's best darts stars will return to Wolverhampton in November after it was confirmed the Wolverhampton Civic Hall will host the 2009 PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts.

The Wolves Civic has hosted the ITV-televised tournament for the past two years, with fans packing the 70-year-old venue to see the likes of Phil "The Power" Taylor in action.

Prior to the Grand Slam of Darts, the venue also hosted sold-out league nights in the 2006 and 2007 Premier League Darts.

A three-year deal has now been agreed to keep the Grand Slam of Darts at the Civic Hall.

"The Wolverhampton Civic Hall has been a huge success in the past two years and provides a perfect theatre for the Grand Slam of Darts," said Professional Darts Corporation Chairman Barry Hearn.

"It's an ideal venue for this event and creates a brilliant atmosphere for what is a totally unique tournament, featuring players from both codes of darts competing in front of the ITV cameras with network terrestrial coverage."

Civic Halls General Manager Mark Blackstock added: "This is fantastic news for our city.

"The darts coming to Wolverhampton is a real treat for everyone.

"It's massively special for Wolverhampton because it so much suits the spirit of our venues and our audiences; the party atmosphere here is something we are very proud of.

"We also look forward these events because the PDC are such a pleasure to work with."

Tickets are likely to go on sale in August, with details to be confirmed at www.pdc.tv and www.wolvescivic.co.uk once confirmed.
