Beau Greaves believes her confidence is at a high ahead of her opening monster Mr Vegas Grand Slam of Darts clash against three-time champion Michael van Gerwen.
Greaves’ memorable 2025 so far has included becoming only the second woman to earn a Tour Card after Lisa Ashton, an 86-game winning streak on the PDC Women’s Series circuit and reaching the World Youth Championship final after her incredible semi-final victory over Luke Littler.
On her third appearance in Wolverhampton, the Doncaster arrowsmith has an opportunity for further success when she clashes with Van Gerwen in Saturday’s showpiece match at the WV Active Aldersley.
Greaves has yet to win her opening game at a Grand Slam, marginally falling short 5-4 to Nathan Aspinall on debut and losing 5-2 to Danny Noppert last year, but is hoping to reverse this trend against the world number three.
“It's massive, isn't it,” recognised Greaves on her clash with Van Gerwen, who play each other for the first time at a competitive event.
“Who else would you rather play, really? It's great for me.
“I'm just going to go and enjoy it.”
Greaves has also been pitted against another former World Champion in Gary Anderson and recent European Tour winner Niko Springer in a gruesome group.
The 21-year-old will become a familiar face on the Pro Tour in the years to come thanks to earning her PDC Tour Card this year, but is aware of the experience that her opponents possess, especially with stage events.
“When you're playing someone who's done it for years and years, they're probably just more comfortable on the stage,” insisted Greaves.
“I might get up there at the weekend and feel absolutely great, but I think I have it in my head a little bit that it's just different.
“I do find it hard playing on stage, but I’ve got a bit of a different outlook on it this year. I know I'm playing well, I know I feel confident.”
The confidence Greaves possesses can be in part credited to her showstopping World Youth Championship semi-final win over Littler, taking out the deciding leg in 11 darts to defy a 107 average from the World Champion.
The victory has ensured her spot in the World Youth Championship final against Gian van Veen on November 23 in Minehead, strengthening Greaves’ form and confidence ahead of a busy darting schedule.
“It's all been really positive towards the back end of the year and I’m really proud of myself,” affirmed Greaves.
“It’s nice to play with confidence. It's been a massive difference in my game.
“I've got my Tour Card now and there's no reason why I can't go on to do good things.”
