MICHAEL VAN GERWEN made a winning start in his bid for a third successive Unibet Masters title.

The top 24 players from the PDC Werner Rankings Ladder will be exempt through to the televised stage of the Winmau World Masters, which takes place from January 29-February 1, with all remaining Tour Card Holders able to compete in the Preliminary Rounds.

They are joined by players from the PDC's secondary and affiliate tours, as well as representatives from the JDC circuit.

The Preliminary Rounds will see 32 players seeded through to the Last 64 (players 25-56 on the PDC Werner Rankings Ladder), to be joined by 32 Group Winners from the round-robin Group Stage.

The Group Stage will see 32 players seeded as one per group (players 57-88 on the PDC Werner Rankings Ladder), with the remaining players drawn at random to the groups.

The Preliminary Rounds will be played as the best of three sets, best of three legs per set.
