THE battle to qualify for the 2018 Champions League of Darts is set to go to the wire in Blackpool this weekend.
The eight-player field for the third staging of the BBC-televised Champions League of Darts will be confirmed following the BetVictor World Matchplay.
Six players, led by reigning champion Mensur Suljovic and world number one Michael van Gerwen, have already sealed their spots at The Brighton Centre on September 22-23.
World Champion Rob Cross, Scottish duo Peter Wright and Gary Anderson and World Grand Prix winner Daryl Gurney are all certain of their places in the Champions League.
Going into the World Matchplay quarter-finals, though, the final two places remain open - with Simon Whitlock and Dave Chisnall currently in the provisional seventh and eight places on the PDC Order of Merit.
However, Joe Cullen and Darren Webster could still force their way into the Champions League of Darts if they go on to win Sunday's final in Blackpool.
There is also a scenario where Whitlock - who is provisionally seventh - could be knocked out of contention, should Webster defeat Chisnall in the World Matchplay final.
